If you’re not ready to let go of winter’s wonder just yet, board the “Ski Train” to La Plagne (via Bourg St Maurice) and try the brand new Subli’Cimes Festival.
This April, the ski resort of La Plagne will play host to the inaugural Sumbli’Cimes festival – and you can get to this exciting – and free – event in the French Alps by taking the “ski train”, a Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Bourg St Maurice that runs from mid-December to mid-April each year.
One for all you mountain lovers, the Subli’Cimes festival boasts six peaks with six experiences: it’s billed as late ski-season entertainment situated at 2,000 m.
This doesn’t have to be a strenuous experience. For example, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the music on the private beach at the top of the Bécoin with sand, deck chairs and DJs; take a Taï Chi lesson in the Zen Attitude zone at the top of Arpette before rewarding yourself with a massage, jacuzzi and sauna; take a polar safari at the top of the Grande Rochette with reindeer, wolfdogs and a Lapland village; or stop off at the top of Le Fornelet to hear some wonderful stories and visit the candy cabin (a hut filled to the brim with an assortment of sweets).
And if you are looking for an adrenalin rush, at the top of the Roche de Mio you can try reverse bungee jumping, the “big air bag” and a zip wire.
To add to the experience, you can book a residence in La Plagne with a swimming pool and spa: I may not be a skier, but boy – I am up for this!
How to get to the Subli’Cimes Festival without flying:
The Eurostar ski train from St Pancras to Bourg St Maurice runs until April 11. The daytime journey takes around eight hours and there is a direct service or you can change at Paris.
The overnight service is direct and takes around 10 hours each way. Once you arrive at Bourg St Maurice, the resort of La Plagne is a further 30 minutes away by car, taxi or bus.
